On Tuesday, July 18 2023, an expert lecture was held at the UNUSA Auditorium Campus B with the theme balance your nutrition, keep your body healthy, and brighten your future. The speakers at the event were Dr. Rita Ramayulis, DCN, M.Kes who is extraordinary. The participants were attended by the Chancellor, UNUSA lecturers and students.

In the presentation of the material delivered by Dr. Rita that Indonesia is one of the countries with triple burden nutritional problems. The prevalence of stunting in Indonesia is in 155th position out of 151 countries in the world. Stunting is chronic malnutrition in the first 1000 days of life (fetus-infants-children-up to 2 years old) which causes children to fail to grow and fail to develop. Failure to thrive such as a child’s height is shorter than the age of a child of his age and for failure to thrive can be seen from the child’s low level of intelligence, slow response, and often failing to focus. Some of the causes of stunting include anemia in pregnant women, pregnant women with CED, and undernourished children. Height gain and percentage of fat in children can occur at the age of 5 years.

Metabolic changes in stunting are related to the risk of obesity and PTM. Non-communicable diseases can occur due to several factors including: lack of physical activity, lack of consumption of vegetables and fruit, high consumption of sugar, high consumption of sodium/salt, obesity, central obesity, smoking prevalence over 15 years of age, and alcohol consumption in the last 12 months.

The relationship between excess sugar consumption and PTM is if blood glucose levels increase, then insulin production increases which will trigger inflammation, then affect the health of blood vessels and excess glucose becomes food for pathogenic microbes in the intestine.

The relationship between salt consumption and PTM, if too much salt consumption can increase blood pressure and damage to endothelial cell function so that it can lead to the risk of heart disease.
