Actor Salim Kumar Talks About Political Correctness and Lack of Comedy Roles in Films

“Now we can’t call someone bald and black. Whatever is said should follow political correctness. “We don’t know when a case will come on this,” said Salim Kumar

Salim Kumar is one of the rare actors who has achieved more than 300 films, four state awards and one national award. Malayali’s favorite actor has been active in the film industry for 27 years. Actor Salim Kumar gained attention for his comedic roles, but he can also handle character roles very well.

He says there is a lack of comedy roles in today’s films and political correctness has affected comedies.

“Today’s films don’t have funny characters. That’s why we do very serious characters. I still love doing comedy characters. But there is a dearth of comedy here. I like to make people laugh,” said Salim Kumar in an interview with New Indian Express.

He added that political correctness is an obstacle to making jokes. “Now we can’t call someone bald and black. Whatever is said should follow political correctness. We don’t know when a case will be filed on this.”

Saliramkumar says that political correctness has affected people’s sense of humor and even if there are some kind of obstacles, it is difficult to make jokes. “Jokes are now written in a cage. Even Kunjan Nambiar has criticized the king. Nehru told cartoonist Shankar not to fall in love with him. There should not be any kind of hindrance to jokes. But only comedy survives,” he added.

The actor also said that body shaming is a bad thing. “Body shaming should not be encouraged. That’s bad. But don’t say every word is body shaming. Even Mammootty had to apologize for saying he had no hair. We have learned in childhood that the symbol of man is egghead or baldness. And how can that be body shaming?”

Salim Kumar also responded about the incident of supporting actor Dileep in the actress assault case. “I have not said that everything Dileep has done is right. We should not judge someone for once. The media and the people have no right to do so. Only the court can give verdicts.”

The actor also talked about the new film he is going to direct. “I have such a plan but I don’t know if it will happen. From my knowledge today’s film has traveled a lot and I won’t. I have directed three films now.”

He also responded to whether the friendships between actors of yesteryear are lacking in today’s generation. “Caravan culture prohibits many people from talking to each other. In the past, everyone used to sit together and talk. After his short today, the cast will go to the caravan immediately. Films like CID Musa and Pakkum Thalika will never happen again. Because a lot of the funniest scenes in it were when we were talking to each other.”
