Acting Mayor of Jogja Responds to Gibran’s Statement on Tourist Visits During Eid al-Fitr 2023

Jakarta

Acting (Pj) Mayor of Jogja Singgih Raharjo responds to the statement of vice presidential candidate number two Gibran Rakabuming Raka who said that tourist visits to the city of Solo were higher than to the city of Jogja during Eid al-Fitr 2023. What did he say?

“Try checking again on social media, because someone has already answered that. So the comparison (of tourist visits) between Solo and Jogja is like what it is like on social media,” said Singgih as reported by detikJogjaSaturday (24/12/2023).

Singgih only emphasized that on social media many netizens had responded to Gibran’s statement. Apart from that, Singgih admitted that he would concentrate on the economic impact on society from the number of tourists who are predicted to visit DIY in the millions.

“If yesterday’s (prediction of) the number (of tourists to Jogja) varied, yes, the prediction from the Ministry of Transportation was 7 million for DIY, but last night someone said half of that. But the point is I’m not chasing the number,” he explained.

“On average, 2.7 (million) if I’m not mistaken, tourist spending money, per tourist per visit. This means that they spend time here around 1.5 nights length of stay. So the spending according to tourist spending analysts is Rp. 2.7 million,” he continued.

It is known that Gibran made this statement during the vice presidential debate last Friday (22/12) night. At that time, Gibran answered a question from Vice Presidential Candidate number 1 Muhaimin Iskandar when he asked about the many development projects in Solo.

“Yesterday, during Eid al-Fitr, tourist visits to Solo exceeded Jogja, that was the impact,” explained Gibran in the Cawapres debate, Friday (22/12) evening.
