Abu Dhabi’s COP28 Presidency Highlights Importance of Religious Leaders in Addressing Climate Change

His Excellency Dr. Sultan bin Ahmed Al Jaber, Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology and President of the Conference of the Parties (COP28), confirmed that in line with the vision of the leadership in the UAE, the presidency of the conference attaches great importance to the role of religious leaders and symbols, and is keen on their participation in global efforts aimed at addressing the repercussions of climate change and reaching For practical, concrete solutions that contribute to protecting humanity and planet Earth.
This came during His Excellency’s reception yesterday with Counselor Muhammad Abdel Salam, Secretary-General of the Council of Muslim Elders, to discuss the final arrangements for the interfaith pavilion at COP28, and the expected aspirations of the Religious Leaders and Symbols Summit, which Abu Dhabi will host on the 6th and 7th of next November.
During the meeting, His Excellency Dr. Sultan Al Jaber praised the efforts of His Eminence the Grand Imam, Professor Dr. Ahmed Al-Tayeb, Sheikh of Al-Azhar Al-Sharif, Chairman of the Muslim Council of Elders, and His Holiness Pope Francis, Pope of the Catholic Church, in promoting interfaith dialogue in order to confront the repercussions of climate change, through Organizing the World Summit of Religious Leaders and Symbols, and participating in the Interfaith Pavilion at COP28.
For his part, the Secretary-General of the Council of Muslim Elders praised the efforts of the COP28 presidency to enhance cooperation and joint work with all actors and parties in order to achieve fundamental progress in addressing the issue of climate change, which represents an existential threat to life on planet Earth.
