about fashion, Lithuanian tastelessness and commentators with torn rabbits

However, J. Statkevičius does not lose his positivity – the creator preparing for the presentation of the new collection says that everything must be viewed with humor and educate the society, and the world will be saved by beauty, art and culture.

Currently, J. Statkevičius lives in the mood of preparation for the largest fashion event in Lithuania. On the evening of November 17, the designer is preparing an impressive high fashion show at the Lithuanian Exhibition and Congress Center Litexpo, where he will present the spring and summer collection of 2022.

The designer, who has been making unparalleled presentations of the collections for a number of years, says that this year is different. The changed world due to the pandemic also dictates the rules of organizing events, so for the famous designer, the last few months are like flying on a roller coaster.

“It simply came to our notice then. People don’t really get caught up and don’t understand what it means to organize and do something at a time like this. First of all, everything is getting more expensive, and there is also a high risk that the government will ban events as the number of infections increases. I’ve never in my life thought that making a collection would take care of such things as well. If you used to have a headache from all kinds of eyelashes, flowers, make-up, hairstyles, and you have to finish your clothes and clothes, then this year we have to take care of pandemic issues as well, ”says J. Statkevičius, who is preparing for the presentation.

However, the country’s most famous fashion designer also sees the bright side of the pandemic. People miss the events, so donating a holiday during such a period is a great pleasure.

“Everyone wants to come, get dressed, stay together. Fashion is exactly the area where people can come to look at both others and themselves. An event of this magnitude takes place only once a year, and I have been doing so for three decades. But we must not forget that the whole event is the fruit of a very huge and complex work, a complex process and, admittedly, not everyone knows how to do it. “

The designer does not hide that every year he quietly thinks that the presentation of the collection is being prepared for the last time:

“On the one hand, this process is very pleasant for me, on the other hand, I keep repeating to myself that I am doing it for the last time. I just don’t tell anyone that, as some like. I swear that it is not worthwhile that the financial situation in Lithuania is not like in London, Paris or New York. After all, you know that the purchasing power of us is directed to the stores of used clothes and cheap food, and fashion has always been on the sidelines with us ”.

Speaking critically about the Lithuanian style, J. Statkevičius notices that the attitude towards the culture of high fashion is still stagnant, and Lithuania never deviates from post-Soviet thinking.

“We are the easternmost in Europe. Notice how people dress in Paris and how in Šeškinė. That’s all. If a glass house is somewhere with us, it does not mean that we are Europe. In addition, during this pandemic, the level dropped as needed – people are lazy, they are comfortable with training and with a plate in front of the TV, ”laughs J. Statkevičius.
