Covid-19: a cluster identified at Bordeaux University Hospital, around fifteen positive caregivers

While the circulation of the virus is progressing again in the territory, a cluster has been observed at Saint-André hospital in Bordeaux, in recent days, according to France Blue Gironde. Fifteen caregivers tested positive last Tuesday in a unit dedicated to infectious diseases. In detail, this concerns nine paramedics and six medical personnel. The latter have been placed in quarantine.

Finally, nine patients were also infected, while they were hospitalized for other reasons. The management of the Bordeaux University Hospital announced in an internal letter that these 24 positive cases were all doubly vaccinated. No serious form has yet been identified.

Slight increase in hospitalizations

Preventive measures were immediately taken. Thus, in order to contain any risk, all the personnel of the unit concerned as well as the employees occasionally intervening in the service (dieticians, physiotherapists, social workers, etc.) were tested. Other measures taken: Ten beds have been closed in the department, and no patients will be accepted until the start of next week.

A reorganization of patient transfers is underway. All those who have visited the unit affected by contamination since October 23 will be identified and notified of the cluster, notes the site Actu.fr. The management of the hospital calls in another internal letter the caregivers of the CHU to reinforce the barrier gestures, in particular during the meals, and to be administered the third dose of vaccine.

In France, contaminations as well as hospitalizations for a Covid infection have increased slightly in recent weeks. According to data released Thursday evening by Public Health, 6,718 people were hospitalized Thursday, against 6,541 last Thursday.
