Breaking in is not always breaking out. A thief got into a supermarket and locked himself in there. Passers-by called the police, who freed him – and arrested him.

A burglar locked himself in in Aalen during a foray into a supermarket.

The 35-year-old levered a gap between the sliding door and the glass pane at the entrance to the shop and squeezed through. In the shop on Friday night, he looked for tobacco, drinks and groceries worth around 500 euros, among other things, and got everything ready at the exit.

Police: “We can’t explain that either”

There he experienced the nasty surprise: “He came in, but he couldn’t come out through the gap. We can’t explain that either,” said a police spokesman in Aalen. “But in the end he had no choice but to wait in the shop for the police.” Passers-by discovered the man in the shop and alerted the officials.
