The principle of Secret Santa is simple. In a group, everyone draws a person’s name without revealing it and gives them a gift. And sometimes it can reveal good surprises. This was the case this year for Shelby, an American living in Michigan, who was offered multitudes of gifts by Bill Gates, says CNN. The young woman and the founder of Microsoft had signed up for the “Secret Santa” on RedditGifts, an American site which organizes several gift exchanges between Internet users throughout the year. Bill Gates has been participating in this online event during Christmas time since 2013 and the American media relay its generosity every year. “I knew Bill Gates has been around for years, but I never thought he would be my Secret Santa. It’s really surprising,” said Shelby.
The latter was given a 36-kilo package by FedEx office workers, who told her that he was one of the richest men in the world who sent her. The lucky winner revealed in two YouTube videos everything she had received from Bill Gates, who takes this charge very seriously each year by researching the person to whom he should give a gift.
Shelby received an original manuscript of “Gatsby the Magnificent” signed by Bill Gates, books, toys for his cat, Oreo cakes, Lego for adults Star Wars or objects related to the universes of Harry Potter and the Twin Peaks series. But the gift that touched him the most was a donation in memory of his mother, who died last April, to the American Heart Association (AHA).
