The story of a busker who managed to pay for his mother to go on hajj, Slamet: I saved for 10 years

KOMPAS.com – Slamet Effendy (30), a busker from Kerpangan Village, Leces District, Regency Probolinggo, East Java, managed to register with his mother for Hajj.

He registered for the pilgrimage at the local Ministry of Religion office with his neighbor escorting him on Thursday (3/9/2020) at a cost of IDR 25 million.

Meanwhile, he registered the mother first in 2018.

When contacted by Kompas.com, Slamet admitted that he had the money to register for the pilgrimage from his savings while singing.

Every day, he puts aside Rp. 20,000 to Rp. 25,000. The money was given to his mother to save.

Meanwhile, if there is still some leftover, he can use it to help meet his daily needs.

“I saved for 10 years, sir. Every day I save Rp. 20,000-25,000. The savings are saved by the mother. When there is a lot, the coins are exchanged at the shop. By the mother, they are stored in a plastic bag and stored at home until a lot,” said Slamet. Madurese language, when contacted via his neighbor’s cell phone, Yuyun Wahyuni, Saturday (5/9/2020).

According to Slamet, the desire to go on pilgrimage with his mother had been his dream since he was a child.

To make his wish come true, every day he busks at the Leces Pasuruan-Probolinggo exit toll gate from morning to night.

Despite his limitations, he admits that he is grateful that his wish has finally come true.

Slamet, it is known that he only lives with his mother. Because, his father had died due to illness.

Since his father left, he finally dropped out of school since elementary school.

“I want to go for the pilgrimage with my mother. Hopefully related parties can help me,” hoped Slamet.

Meanwhile, Slamet’s neighbor, Yuyun Wahyuni ​​said, to realize his dream of going on the pilgrimage with his mother, Slamet goes busking every day.

“He was singing from morning to 10 at night, came home only to eat and then left for singing again,” said Yuyun via telephone.

Slamet asked him to deliver the Ministry of Religion’s Hajj list because he could not read and write.

Even though he only works as a busker, Yuyun admits that he is amazed by Slamet’s persistence in realizing his dream of going on the pilgrimage with his mother.
