a year later, memories of confinement

A year ago, national confinement began in France. This decision has changed our daily lives. The Burgundians are still very marked by this special day.

We heard about the war from our parents. It was so horrible we didn’t panic about it.

Marie-Jo Frangne

Marie-Jo Frangne is retired in Nolay (Côte d’Or). On March 17, 2020, she is a spectator of this first day of confinement, like many French people. An event that she apprehends with philosophy.

“We’ve been expecting this for a while, so we weren’t too surprised. I even think that containment should have been done a long time ago! And surely to be a little more severe because people took a bit of fun. As we are in retreat with my husband, it didn’t bother us too much. We heard about the war from our parents. It was so horrible we didn’t panic about it. It is true that we saw a lot of people running to the supermarket. It surprised me! I didn’t think we could panic so much! But it’s true that after a while it was a bit long, ”recalls Marie-Jo Frangne.

I was in a pretty euphoric state of mind.

Marie ravey

Marie Ravey is a student. The announcement of confinement has meant many changes for her. Returning to her parents’ home in Dijon, the hasty end of the school year and canceled company internship disrupted the young woman’s life.

“If I remember correctly, it was a Tuesday. I was in a pretty euphoric state of mind. It was new, I was not really aware of the magnitude of the thing. I felt like I was in another dimension. I was a student so I went back to my parents. I didn’t quite understand what was going on, but I said to myself: I’m going to my parents for two weeks so it’s ok! When the confinement started, I had already finished my classes and I had to start an internship, which was canceled. They were pretty mixed feelings. On the one hand, I was disappointed not to be able to do my internship, but I told myself that I was going to have time for myself. It was all new to be locked up at home. At the beginning, I didn’t necessarily have a very good experience going back to my parents, even though I had been living alone for four years. You have to do with everyone’s habits. I didn’t think it was going to last that long when I got there! »Says Marie Ravey.

I stayed at home, in an 18 square meter area where you can quickly walk around it.

Matthieu

The employment environment has also been greatly affected. A situation regularly synonymous with job loss or suspension of activity.

Matthieu, in Dijon, remembers this complicated period: “I remember that the president had made a speech and that it had to be a confinement of two renewable weeks. It was a period when I was acting. That extra day, I was sick, I had the symptoms of Covid. I worked for two hours that day. I went home and didn’t go to work for two months after that. I stayed at home, in an 18 square meter area where you can quickly walk around it. This confinement was really not great, between the lack of work, the lack of going out, the lack of social life… I didn’t see my girlfriend at the time either, so it was quite complicated. At that time I was following the news closely. We expected confinement but we did not want to believe it too much. I didn’t think it was going to be so difficult ”

When the confinement was announced, what was most annoying for her was especially being without friends to play!

Luis Antonio Lopes

Luis Antonio Lopes is the father of a family. He lives in Martrois, a small village in the Côte d’Orienne countryside. The announcement of confinement especially marked his little girl. “The day the confinement was announced, I was a little apprehensive because I also have respiratory problems. Like everyone else, I felt a little insecure. Given the situation in China, it was necessary. I think it is especially the youth who have suffered. I have a 7 year old little girl who didn’t really notice. By dint of hearing about it at school, with barrier gestures, she no longer knew where she was. When the confinement was announced, what was most annoying for her was especially being without friends to play! Because school is especially about friends at his age. At the time, I had just left my business. As we live in the countryside, we spent most of the time in the meadow with the horses. I think it was especially difficult for children, adolescents and single people. “

One year to the day after the start of the first confinement in France, the lives of the French have changed. Masks, barrier gestures, confinements: the year was marked by the Covid-19.
