Disturbing accident in Constance. Several passers-by rescued a seven-year-old girl. The little girl, naked and wrapped in a sheet, was in the arms of her mother who threatened to throw her in front of some cars.
The woman was actually heading towards a busy boulevard when she was stopped. The scenes were captured by a witness.
The call to 112, recorded at 6:20 pm, set off the alarm. Two men and a woman were alarmed when they saw the baby wrapped in a sheet. The seven-year-old girl, in turn, was trying to ask for help.
A man managed to stop the woman
The man, who was running after the woman while talking to the 112 switchboard, managed to stop her before she committed the reckless act. Another call was made by a passerby to the emergency number 119, known as the child’s phone.
Law enforcement agencies also consider the option of a premeditated gesture. There are witnesses who say they saw the woman as she left the neighborhood where she lives, accompanied by the completely naked child. At one point she stopped the car she was traveling in about a mile from the house, wrapped the baby in a sheet, and, while loudly chanting spells, ran chaotically with the girl in her arms, into the alleys around a block.

Several police officers and child protection inspectors reached the woman. They tried to talk to her, but decided it was best to admit her to the psychiatry department of the Constance County Hospital.
Andreea Iliescu, spokesperson for IPJ Constanța: “She did not want to collaborate with the authorities, she had an agitated and recalcitrant behavior, for which she was taken to the hospital and, later, to the psychiatric ward. Investigations into the crime of child maltreatment are underway“.
Mihaela Ristea, DGASPC spokesperson: “The minor remained in the care of his maternal grandfather while the mother received medical treatment and, depending on the arrival of the father in the country, he too was contacted. We will see which are the best measures“.
The woman said she did not intend to harm the baby
The 31-year-old mother is not registered with mental health problems. She lives with her seven year old daughter. Her husband, a sailor, is traveling. In his few moments of lucidity, he told investigators that he did not intend to harm the child, but only to lower her fever. Doctors claim the girl is not sick and psychologists say she was very lucky to have escaped alive. The reason that would have triggered the episode would be related to the quarrels that her mother had with her parents.
Elena Stambuli, psychologist: “There are two causes: mental disorder or psychosis which can lead to such delusional ideas. These mothers, in general, do not want to harm children, but think that in this way they protect them, that they save them from suffering. It is possible that she would have gone through with it if she had not been stopped in time, because when you are in an episode like this, it somehow does not cloud your reality.“.
The authorities have established that, until the completion of the psychiatric examinations to which the mother is subjected, the seven-year-old girl will remain in the care of her grandparents.
