Kariņš emphasized that the government had previously managed to deal with a “very difficult situation” in the financial sector, as Latvia was in danger of entering the so-called “black” or “gray” list. At that time, a special council was set up under the auspices of the Prime Minister to address this issue, bringing together all branches of power and bringing the financial sector in order.

“Thus, we managed to find a strong backbone for the financial system,” said Kariņš. The Prime Minister emphasized that a similar challenge is related to the need to strengthen the rule of law and anti-corruption measures. Therefore, in the light of past experience, it is planned to set up a council to address this issue.

“In this way, we will show that strengthening the rule of law and anti-corruption measures are important for the ruling coalition,” he said, adding that these problems, among other things, create barriers to attracting investment.
