A South Korean woman who was addicted to crime novels killed a stranger in cold blood in order to know what it was like to kill someone. She stabbed the victim more than 100 times and dismembered the body. Her brutal crime shocked the whole of South Korea, and she was sentenced to life imprisonment by the court today (11/24).

According to South Korean media reports, Jung Yoo-jung, a 23-year-old unemployed woman from Busan, loves crime novels and dramas, and was so addicted to the murder techniques in them that she couldn’t help herself, so she came up with the idea of killing people.

The police pointed out that Zhong used dating software to find targets, specifically women. If the target was engaged in a teaching-related job, she would ask him if he was willing to take classes at home, and contacted more than 50 people on the dating software.

In May of this year, Zhong Nu pretended to be a mother with a high school daughter and went online to help her daughter find a tutor. She met a 26-year-old female college student who lived in Busan City and worked part-time as an English tutor. She made an appointment with the other party to take English classes at his home, then put on a high school girls’ uniform that she bought online and went to the other party’s home.

After the female teacher let Zhong Nu in, Zhong Nu immediately took out a knife and attacked her. Even though the female teacher had died, she still didn’t let go and stabbed her 111 times. Then Zhong Nu dismembered the body of the deceased at the scene, packed some of the body parts into a suitcase, called a taxi, and disposed of the body parts in a remote place near a river on the outskirts of Buk-gu, Busan City.

The taxi driver who was carrying Zhong Nu found blood oozing from the suitcase, and saw her throwing her luggage in the woods. He reported the case to the police, and Zhong Nu was arrested soon after.

Busan police said that after investigating Chung’s computer, they found that she had searched online for how to kill people and abandon corpses, and had planned to commit the crime for several months. In addition, Zhong Nu scored very high on the mental illness test, and she had no intention of concealing her whereabouts during the crime. Therefore, evidence of entering and exiting multiple times was captured on the surveillance camera of the building where the deceased lived.

The prosecutor originally sought the death penalty against Zhong. Although she admitted the crime during a court hearing in June this year, she said she suffered from hallucinations and other mental illnesses and requested a lighter sentence. Zhongnu even said shockingly: “I killed her, but she came back alive and still talked to me.” She also requested a mental evaluation on her.

Zhong Nu’s defense of claiming to be insane was rejected by the court, which criticized her for having carefully planned and executed the crime, making it difficult to accept the so-called mental disorder argument. In the end, Zhong Nu admitted that she had the idea of killing someone because she was addicted to crime novels.

The Busan District Court today sentenced Jong to life imprisonment. The judge said: “This case has spread great fear and distrust in society and shows that a person can become a victim without any reason.”
