The search for any form of life was not focused on Venus before, but a few days after the announcement of an exciting discovery, the US Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) is considering approval, for two proposals to send missions to other planets, one of which is a mission to Venus, scientists say It may help to know if it has the elements of life.

Last Monday, an international research team revealed evidence of the possibility of microbes in the highly acidic clouds of Venus, represented by traces of phosphine gas produced on Earth by bacteria that spread in the oxygen-free environment.

The researchers did not discover actual life forms, but did note that phosphine on Earth is produced by bacteria that circulate in oxygen-hungry environments.

Strong proof

Clara Souza Silva, a molecular astrophysicist at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology involved in the research, said, “With what we currently know about Venus, the most plausible explanation for phosphine, although it may seem fanciful, is life.”

This discovery provided strong evidence for the possible existence of life outside Earth.

The Da Vinci Mission

For his part, David Grinspoon, an astrobiologist who is participating in the da Vinci mission proposal, told Reuters Tuesday, “Da Vinci is the logical choice if you want to follow this up .. because the only way to follow up is to go there and see what’s going on in the atmosphere.” “.

In February, NASA put out a short list of four proposed missions that one of its committees is currently considering. Two of the missions will launch robotic probes to Venus, one of which will be the da Vinci mission and send a probe to the planet’s atmosphere.

And in July, NASA launched a next-generation vehicle to search for traces of life that may have been in the past on Mars.

The existence of extraterrestrial life has long been a major scientific issue. Scientists have used probes and telescopes to search for “vital signs” – indirect signs of life – on other planets and moons in our solar system and beyond.
