A 10-year-old girl was seriously injured in the legs, Saturday afternoon, during a boating accident on Grand Lac Sec, near Hébertville, in Lac-Saint-Jean.
The girl was on a tripe, with four other children, and was being pulled by a small motor boat that circled the water around 3 p.m.
For some reason yet to be determined, the boat operator, in her thirties, reportedly fell into the water as the boat continued to circle.
It was the boat’s propeller that inflicted serious injuries on the girl. Both of her legs were affected, one more severely than the other. The young victim had to be transported to a hospital center to treat his significant injuries. Fortunately, there is no fear for his life and everyone was able to return to the quay to be taken care of by the ambulance attendants.
An investigation is carried out to establish precisely the circumstances of the incident. Alcohol is not, however, in question, specifies the spokesperson for the Sûreté du Québec, Louis-Philippe Bibeau.
