CupHead, Studio MDHR’s brilliant run’n gun will return in the form of an animated series led by Netflix, soberly titled The CupHead Show. After the revelation of the project in 2019, it went under the radar but today we have the right, finally, to a (too?) Short overview of The CupHead Show !
While the original game had a graphic style close to the cartoons of the 30s, it seemed almost logical that an animation series was inspired by the game. It must be said that with its sublime artistic direction and its jazzy soundtrack of more beautiful effect, everything was there to make it happen. The creators of the game being associated with the project, we can hope to have a faithful adaptation of the universe of the game while deepening the lore of the latter. Apart from this meager information, we did not have much to put in our mouths until the arrival of a very short overview – 46 seconds! – lands on the Internet. The opportunity to learn a little more about the team in charge of the adaptation and the castings of American voices.
- Dave Wassom, executive producer. He worked on Space Jam as an animator. He directed the series Mickey Mouse in the USA.
- CJ Kettler, executive producer. She has produced numerous series and has been nominated for the Emmy Awards for Carmen Sandiego.
- Cosmo Segurson, the executive co-producer. He is known to have worked with Tim Burton sur Ed Wood or on the series Camp Lazlo!
- Andrea Fernandez, artistic director. She worked at Warner Bros. in particular on LEGO animation movies.
- Tru Valentino plays CupHead. He’s a talented voice actor who played in the animated series Fast & Furious : Spy Racers or Hot Streets
- Frank Todaro performs Mugman. It’s used to dubbing video games or Japanese animation series. His name is associated with various gaming projects God Eater 3 or the series Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure.
As you can see, there is quality. Besides, the video appeared on Twitter seems to respect the original atmosphere of the game to the letter and all this small team seems animated by an overflowing enthusiasm. Unfortunately, Netflix remains mysterious as to the release date since we have to be content with a simple “coming soon”. In the meantime, here is the extract in question:
