Rumors have been talking about hypotheticals for several years smart glasses in preparation at Apple. But if they were not expected for at least several years, it would seem that Apple can reveal them much sooner than expected, from this year 2020. This is in any case what claims the leaker Jon Prosser, who seems have excellent sources at the firm, since it announced in advance, with precision, each new Apple product launched since the beginning of the year. After having drawn the outline of the future range ofiPhone 12, now Prosser is tackling these famous augmented reality glasses, and, surprised, he says that they could be unveiled at the end of 2020, or at the beginning of 2021 if the current pandemic were to get longer . It also evokes an official name: Apple Glass.
In addition to announcing the name and release date of what should be Apple’s future “One More Thing,” Jon Prosser also talks about the price of the device, and a number of features. According to him, the Apple Glass would be sold in starting price of 499 euros. Atypical product requires, we should add the price of the medical prescription for wearers of corrective glass. To justify this price, Prosser indicates that this first generation of connected glasses from Apple should not be autonomous. To detect these, as well as the surrounding environment, Apple Glass would be equipped with the famous sensor LiDAR, a sensor specially dedicated to augmented reality having appeared on the latest iPad Pro, and supposed to land on future iPhone 12 Pro in September. Finally, Prosser specifies that these Apple Glass should be recharged exclusively wirelessly. We can already imagine a storage box also serving as a charger. Unfortunately, Prosser does not mention the hypothetical product autonomy.
Apple Glass could therefore be unveiled this year, in October. Prosser indicates that the presentation of the glasses should be done as a “One More Thing” at the end of the presentation of the iPhone 12, initially planned for September, but which could be postponed to October depending on the evolution of the COVID-19 pandemic. If the latter were to extend, Apple would postpone the presentation of these glasses at the beginning of next year, said the leaker. However, this would only be the presentation of the product. Its launch for sale should not take place before the end of 2021, or even early 2022, says Prosser.
