A planned water treatment unit in Lézan

The creation of a drinking water treatment unit in the hamlet of Lézan in Sauveterre-de-Comminges had become a priority for its inhabitants, who have been regularly confronted since 2017 with anomalies in the drinking water network. Today, the project is on track. The start of work is scheduled for the end of June, or even the beginning of July, and this, for a filling, tests and adjustments at the end of 2021 or the beginning of 2022. “Unless unforeseen, connection to the network is expected during the first quarter of 2022”, specifies André Fillastre, deputy mayor who participated in the work meetings of the SMEA (mixed water and sanitation union) of Haute-Garonne in the presence of the company in charge of the site and elected officials.

Historical

Since 2014, the commune of Sauveterre has delegated its competence to the SMEA. Three years later, the union had to deal with water non-conformities on the network in Lézan. This has led it to intensify its self-checks alongside those carried out by the regional health agency (ARS) in order to limit the risks and alert the population as quickly as possible. For a while, the municipality was even forced to distribute bottles of water to residents! Faced with this problem and with a view to improving the existing water treatment, a study was selected and included in the priority actions of the union.

350.000 euros

The solution to remedy this situation: install a treatment station. “Basically, large investments were planned to build a station between the Boucou and Lézan catchments. This amounted to € 350,000 to which must be added the costs of connection to the network,” explains André Fillastre. “The work on this filtering station was a good year behind schedule. On the one hand, because of technical conditions to be resolved: the choice of location for this treatment unit and the purchase of land … But especially in relation to the sanitary conditions and restriction for more than a year “, adds the elected official. Everything is set to date. SMEA has acquired land at the entrance to the Lézan district. The work schedule is established. Within another year, the processing unit should finally be built and operational. The municipal team, supported by the services of SMEA 31, will finally see this long-term project come to fruition.
