A 78-year-old man had half of his face torn off, exposing his skull, on a Portland train

In other events, a suspect tore off an elderly man’s ear and part of his face in a gruesome attack on a Portland train platform.

The injuries were so serious that part of the 78-year-old man’s skull was exposed after the violent attack in the suburb of Gresham, in the state of Oregon, on December 3, 2022 in the morning hours.

Fortunately, they managed to arrest the 25-year-old suspect, Koryn Kraemer, and charged him with second degree assault. The attack occurred in the early morning on a platform of the MAX train, the express service of the Portland metropolitan area.

Police said they responded to the brutal incident around 2:17 a.m., where witnesses reported an attack involving a significant amount of blood. Gresham police officers and an officer with the Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office responded thinking the attack was a stabbing.

When they arrived at the Cleveland Avenue MAX platform, responding officers found the suspect still involved in the attack and lying on top of the victim, police said. Later, the police confirmed that the old man had not been stabbed, but his ear and part of his face had been torn off, exposing part of his skull.

Officers called paramedics to provide the victim with emergency medical attention. The police then arrested the suspect, but he gave a false name, identifying himself as ‘El Baker’.

Once housed in jail, Multnomah County Jail staff took his fingerprints and correctly identified the man as Koryn Kraemer. The 25-year-old had recently moved to Portland, Oregon from Georgia, police confirmed.

Authorities are also continuing to investigate whether drug use may have prompted Kraemer’s behavior.

However, no information from Kraemer’s case has yet been posted to Oregon’s online court system, as he also has to make a court appearance. It’s also unclear if Kraemer had an attorney he could comment on.

As of now, the unidentified victim, from Hillsboro, Oregon, is in stable condition and is expected to make a full recovery this February.
