The attacks took place late Halloween night in the old town, specifically in the neighborhood of the famous Chateau Frontenac hotel, tourist destination of the capital of the French-speaking Canadian province, and in the Quebec Parliament area, according to the police report.
The suspect, “a man of about 25 “, armed with a sword and dressed in medieval” clothes“, attacked several people for reasons still unknown. After a manhunt through the streets of the historic center, fortunately not crowded due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the perpetrator of the slaughter was arrested. This was confirmed by Etienne Doyon, spokesman for the Quebec police service.
Police received the first distress call around 10:30 pm, reporting “multiple armed attacks” occurred “in the old city area,” Doyon said. The police then “deployed several police officers on the ground”.
The suspect was “stopped shortly before 1am” near the Espace 400e, near the old port. He was “searched” and “taken to a hospital for checks,” he added.

During the arrest phases, the man, born in 1996 according to Le Soleil, was lying on the ground, barefoot and in hypothermia. He surrendered to the police without resistance, according to the newspaper, which states that the suspect would have planned his gesture for a year and a half.
