Tromsø police district announced early Friday afternoon that a report had been received of the theft of a red Polaris ATV from Breivikeidet. The matter was reported and the vehicle was wanted.
At 16.30, the police announced on Twitter that the emergency services had moved out to Brevikeidet to follow up on a report of an accident with an ATV where the driver was trapped under the vehicle.
Police: – He was conscious
The head of operations in the police, Morten Augensen, could tell that the ATV was stolen around 03.00 on Friday night.
– It is unknown how long he has been trapped there, but the accident site is not so far from the place where it was stolen so he may have been lying there since 3 o’clock last night, Augensen says.
According to the police, the ATV was found overturned a few hundred meters from the main road on a low-traffic forest road. The man was conscious and talked to the person who called in the accident.
Augensen has not been able to verify whether the caller is also the owner of the vehicle.
The police are opening a case.
UNN: – Seriously injured, but stable
A little over 5 pm, the Troms police district reports that the man has been transported to UNN.
At 6.30 pm, the press officer at UNN, Solveig Jacobsen, was able to inform that the driver had entered the hospital and that it was a man in his 20s.
– He is seriously injured, but stable, Jacobsen told iTromsø.
