A hundred skiers stranded on a broken chairlift in Serre Chevalier (Hautes-Alpes) were evacuated this Sunday afternoon by mountain rescue workers.
The incident occurred shortly after 3 p.m. on a chairlift at the resort, located in the town of Saint-Chaffrey, on which were ninety-seven skiers.
According to Serre Chevalier Vallée (SCV), the manager of the ski lifts cited by the Dauphiné Libéré, it is a “mechanical breakdown” which would have immobilized the chairlift and blocked its occupants for two hours.
Their evacuation by air and land ended around 5:15 p.m. In total, a dozen rescuers from the High Mountain Gendarmerie Platoon (PGHM) in Briançon supported the resort’s piste service.
