An American man in his 50s who accidentally drowned his 18-month-old granddaughter in the sea while on a Caribbean cruise with his family was saved from prison.

The U.S. media quoted an announcement by the U.S. Puerto Rico legal authorities on the 8th (local time), and a local court probated Salvatore Anello (52), the accused of the death of a baby crash on a cruise ship anchored in San Juan, Puerto Rico in July 2019. They reported that they had a three-year ruling.

The lawyer said Anello would be probated in Indiana.

Anello suffered an accident while putting her granddaughter Chloe on a railing in front of a glass window near the children’s water zone on the 11th floor of a Royal Caribbean cruise at the time.

The glass window, thought to be a glass wall, was open, and the baby leaned toward the window and fell 35 meters outside.

At the time of the accident, the three generations were enjoying a Caribbean cruise together.

Puerto Rico prosecutors charged Anello for negligence three months after the accident, and Anello was arrested and imprisoned before being released on bail.

He initially pleaded not guilty, but pleaded guilty in October last year as a condition of avoiding jail time and receiving probation in the state of Indiana.

After the probation ruling, Anello said, “On the one hand, I am angry, but on the other hand I feel relieved. I comfort the fact that I do not have to go to jail, and that my family can end one period and move on to the next.

“There were no warning signs around,” he said, saying that he thought the railing where the accident occurred was made of glass walls, and never thought that the windows could be open.

He said, “I miss my granddaughter very much,” and said, “In the future, I will devote my family’s energy to a lawsuit for damages against the Zen Master.”

Parents of babies Alan Wigand and Kimberly have filed a civil lawsuit claiming responsibility for the death of their daughter, claiming that there are problems with the safety standards of the cruise ship company Royal Caribbean.

However, the Zen Master denies responsibility, saying, “We cannot have known that Anello had the window open. The death of the baby is only a tragic accident.”
