A “Golden Nugget” alphabet book from the Salon de Montreuil

The ABC of nature primer by Belgian illustrator Bernadette Gervais received the Gold Nugget at the Montreuil Book and Youth Press Fair on Wednesday.

The jury of professionals for this event organized on the outskirts of Paris made its choice among 20 youth titles in competition: novels, comics, illustrated books.

The giant alphabet book (27 x 37 cm), published by Les Grandes People, is intended for children from 2 years old, starting with A for donkey, bee, asparagus, artichoke and egret.

Bernadette Gervais, trained at the Beaux-Arts in Mons (Belgium), is the author of a large number of illustrated books for the youngest, translated into many languages.

The 36th Salon de Montreuil opened on Wednesday in an unusual format, with most of the events on a dedicated television channel, broadcast on TNT, as well as on the Salon’s website.

The other Pépites crowned, in the illustrated book, “Le Caramel du Jurassique” by Roxane Lumeret (Albin Michel Jeunesse), and in the comic strip “Ama: Le Souffle des femmes” by Franck Manguin and Cécile Becq (Sarbacane).

In the junior fiction, “Carmin, volume 1: Le Boy au pied-sabot” by Amélie Sarn (Seuil Jeunesse), and in the teen fiction “I saw Sisyphus happy” by the Greek Katerina Apostolopoulou (Bruno Doucey editions) were rewarded.

Les Pépites are the most important awards given to French-language literary creation in the youth sector. He must make his choice among some 7,000 titles appearing each year.

The Salon de Montreuil, with 500 partner bookstores and libraries, has some 200 guest authors.
