A gesture of sportsmanship that is not unanimous

Columbus Blue Jackets goalie Elvis Merzlikins made a classy gesture on Friday night, but not everyone liked it.

Late in the game, the 27-year-old Latvian asked his defensemen to keep the puck close to him to allow his New York Rangers rival, Igor Shesterkin, to get a shutout.

Merzlikins then raised his stick to greet and congratulate the 25-year-old Russian.

If several supporters welcomed this gesture on social networks, several others criticized it since they would have liked to see their goalkeeper frustrated by the 4-0 defeat of his family.

Others have also mentioned that the Blue Jackets should have made a final breakthrough to avoid being shut out.

Never mind, as far as we are concerned, this fine gesture of sportsmanship from Merzlikins deserves to be highlighted.
