A ceasefire in Russia’s war against Ukraine can be expected in 2023 and even in the middle of the year. A former general in the German army and NATO predicted it.
I expect this to happen in the summer, when both sides say it leads nowhere, Hans-Lothar Domrose told German media group Funke. According to him, the most likely moment such a hopeless situation will arise will be between February and May.
This would be the time to negotiate a ceasefire, Domroze stressed.
However, he specified it it does not mean peace.
“Ceasefire means to stop shooting. It is likely that the negotiations will take a long time, a mediator will be needed”.noted Domroze and singled out UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres as possible candidates for the target or Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
He indicated that the only solution left was through negotiations, whatever that might be acceptable to both parties“although Putin would really like to have all of Ukraine, and Zelensky would like to liberate all of Ukraine.”
Domroze sees a possible solution in this the Ukrainian president to give up from the request for the immediate restitution of the territories such as Crimea to the country and agree that this should be done after a transitional period.
