A film for every electrical trade – vocational training

pm. An information electronics technician programs software, gets communication technology up and running and sometimes repairs hardware. “Your first day” shows what activities this versatile apprenticeship includes.

The second film by the ZVEH on an electrical trade training occupation captures scenes from everyday work of trainee Rauf with the 360-degree camera and can be used by schools and guild companies as part of career information.

When young people get an idea of their future job, dream and reality are sometimes far apart. The Central Association of German Electrical and Information Technology Crafts (ZVEH) has now published a second film for the training series “Your first day” to provide insights into the various electrical trade job profiles and to show what trainees can expect. Rauf, an information electronics technician in his fourth year of training, is supported in it.

As early as spring 2020, the electrical trade organization launched a first video that presented the profession of electronics technician specializing in energy and building technology.

Job information with “Your first day”

The training videos from “Your first day” (www.deinerstertag.de) are intended for use in schools, but also in companies, and are intended to provide orientation for young people who are looking for a job. The offer ranges from trades through commercial and social to creative professions – from “A” for plant mechanic to “Z” for customs officer. The special thing about it: the films are shot with a 360-degree camera so that they can also be played using virtual reality glasses, and give the viewer the feeling of being there up close.

Scenes from everyday working life

In the new ZVEH film, which was shot at the IT technology specialist WH Müller in Frankfurt and accompanied by ZVEH experts, the focus is entirely on the trainee, in this case Rauf (23 years old). On this day, the information electronics technician has to configure a computer for a customer, check a network, install the prepared PC at a customer and check the security technology on site. “Your first day” shows what that means for Rauf and what his working day looks like with these orders.

Customer orientation is important

The viewer not only gets to know Rauf’s trainer Bryan Treberg and the joint manager. He can also look over the shoulders of the trainee when he is working with a customer. One insight here: Information electronics technicians don’t just have to have a soft spot for IT, bring technical know-how and have a sure instinct. You should also enjoy dealing with people. Because customer contacts such as visiting companies and private individuals or giving advice on the phone make up an important part of the work in this electrical trade, in addition to planning, installing and repairing communication technology systems and installing, programming, setting up and testing software .

Service orientation is therefore an important quality that future information electronics engineers should have.

The information electronics technician’s area of responsibility also includes the implementation of security technologies, the installation and integration of data protection concepts or the installation, commissioning and maintenance of communication systems, network technology or fiber optic cables. A versatile profession, and that’s exactly what “Your First Day” with Rauf shows.

Use in schools

The film is mainly used in schools as part of career orientation. Schools can borrow VR glasses with 360-degree films free of charge through the “Your first day” project (www.deinerstertag.de/schulen). In this way, young people get to know careers and companies in a very visual way to which they would otherwise have no access. Almost 3,000 schools are currently using this offer.

Use video for recruiting

State guild associations, guilds and guild companies can also use the film directly for their youth marketing and their training exchanges. It can both be played using VR glasses and integrated into your own website.

A film for every electrical trade

In time for the reorganization of the apprenticeships in the summer of 2021, the ZVEH would like all five electrical trade professions – in addition to the information electronics technician and the electronics technician specializing in energy and building technology, these are the electronics technician specializing in automation and building technology System technology, the electronics technician for machines and drive technology as well as the completely new profession of the electronics technician for building system integration – on “Your first day”. Part three on the electronics technician for machines and drive technology is therefore already being planned.

“Our second training film also shows young people who are looking for a suitable job in an entertaining way what a trainee information electronics technician can expect”, says Hans Auracher, ZVEH Vice President and responsible for the “Communication & Vocational Training” department: “Quite It was particularly important to us to show the wide range that this apprenticeship – like all electrical trade – offers. ‘Your first day’ again provides our guild companies with a good tool to draw the attention of applicants and potential interested parties to a training position in their company. “

The 360-degree film can also be seen on the E-Zubis channel on YouTube: www.youtube.de/ezubis.
