Once an important trading center for retail, the Chelsea district now vibrates to the rhythm of prestigious art galleries emerging from former warehouses, trendy restaurants and clubs where it is good to party. An eclectic, artistic and contrasting neighborhood, Chelsea is definitely worth a visit.

To lose the north …
To put it simply, Chelsea is in the game Midtown de Manhattan. It is bordered to the south by the Meatpacking District, to the north by Hell’s Kitchen, to the west by the Hudson River and to the east by the Flatiron District.
Basically, the neighborhood stretches between W 14th Street and W 29th Street, and between 5th Avenue and the Hudson River.
Culture side
With over 200 art galleries, that is to say the largest concentration of galleries in the city, the district has become a world reference in the field of contemporary art. The galleries are located mainly towards 20th Street and offer vernissages on Thursdays. Please note, most are closed on Mondays.
Chelsea Galleries
Be sure to take a look at the wonders of the Galerie Mary Boone, as well as that of Matthew Marks, one of the oldest in Chelsea or the Gallery Group, an ensemble that has brought together since 2006 and in the former location of Tunnel Nightclub, several galleries that were once scattered around Chelsea.

Rubin Museum of Art

Chelsea hotel
Here is a small hotel that has been talked about a lot. In addition to welcoming celebrities such as Leonard Cohen, Bob Dylan, Stanley Kubrick, Dennis Hopper into its rooms, Jane Fonda or writers such as Thomas Wolfe or Mark Twain, the Chelsea Hotel has witnessed a death (Dylan Thomas, who died of alcoholism there), a song (that of Bon Jovi ” Midnight in Chelsea »), A movie (That of Andy Warhol” Chelsea Girls “), and even a murder (that of the partner of the bassist of the Sex Pistols who was stabbed there). The Chelsea Hotel is listed on National register historic places.
Drink it and eat it
Even though Chelsea is full of all kinds of places to fill your stomach, most of the restaurants are on 9th Avenue. If you want to live an original culinary experience, head to the Chelsea Market.
This huge market, located at the corner of 9th avenue and 15th street, offers about twenty food stores, varied and of good quality, including Amy’s Bread and Fat Witch Bakery. Sport and green
Chelsea Piers et Hudson Park
The huge Chelsea Piers sports complex is spread out between 17th and 22nd avenues. Here you can perfect your swing on the beautiful golf course, rent roller blades, climb the climbing walls, play basketball or even skate. When the weather permits, it is at Pier 66 that the Hudson River Community Sailing offers all kinds of water sports. La High Line

Shopping and style
Stores, there are some, here are some in Chelsea, with in particular the Manhattan Mall which hosts classic brands like Victoria’s Secret or H&M. But if you want “ shopper »Like no other, you can go for a walk to Limelightshops, this small shopping center, formerly a nightclub and even more formerly a church, which has beautiful clothing, accessories and make-up shops.
