A Colorado man suspected in two cold cases, including the 1989 murder of a young woman and the sexual assault of another, that took place more than three decades ago at the same Arizona apartment complex, has been arrested, authorities said Tuesday With.
Thomas Cox, 58, was taken into custody in Colorado Springs and extradited to Arizona to face charges in the death of 22-year-old Susan Amy Morse.

Susan Amy Morse was killed in 1989 and found dead in her apartment unit in Mesa, Arizona. Her alleged killer has been arrested and charged, authorities said on Tuesday.

He was linked to the crimes after investigators used advanced DNA and fingerprint technology.
“We’re just always looking for things. When there is new technology or new techniques to identify a suspect or examine evidence, we believe in it, and we re-examine the evidence over the years, and in this particular case it has worked dramatically,” Mesa Police Department Sgt. Chuck Trapani to Fox affiliate KSAZ-TV.
Morse was killed on October 16, 1989 and was found dead at her home in Mesa, Arizona, where she lived alone. It was later determined that she died of asphyxiation.
In November 1990, Cox allegedly broke into the same apartment complex and sexually assaulted a 23-year-old woman, stealing her cash and VCR. She survived, police said.
Cox was not initially identified as a suspect in either case, but investigators said his mother lived next door to Morse.
