A chlorine leak detected in a water treatment plant in the Alpes-Maritimes

More fear than harm! A chlorine leak was detected in a building of the water board, located on Chemin de la Plaine in Mouans-Sartoux, this Saturday afternoon.

Alerted around 4 p.m., the departmental fire and rescue operational center (CODIS) hired an emergency detachment composed, in particular, of a unit specializing in chemical risk.

Arrived at the scene of the incident, the teams confirmed a technical malfunction in the water treatment plant. This one “resulted in the production of chlorine gas in a closed room”reports the CODIS.

After consultation with the manager and the technicians of the water board, the firefighters carried out several actions. Namely, the establishment of a safety perimeter, the removal of the source of gas production as well as the ventilation of the room concerned.

No malfunction

Once the risk was eliminated, a return to normal was allowed within the plant.

Water treatment and distribution were not affected by the leak, which caused no injuries.
