A strange incident happened at a Hawaiian school. A 10-year-old girl from the town of Gonovai was called to the police for painting an “insulting portrait” of another student.

This happened after the children quarreled with each other. Police not only detained the schoolgirl, but even handcuffed her, AP News writes.

The American Society for Civil Liberties in Hawaii, given this situation, is trying to get a ban on calling the police for children. This is only allowed if the students really pose a serious threat to other students or can harm themselves.

ACLU says the child was immediately sent to the police station and at the same time previously banned from talking to his mother. She did not pose a threat to the other children and did not resist during the detention. After a while, the girl was allowed to return, as there was in fact absolutely no reason to detain her. The drawing she drew was only a response to the harassment inflicted on her by the other student.

After the incident, the girl’s family filed a lawsuit against the city authorities.
