Pinangki’s Prosecutor’s Room on Fire, Mahfud Asks Not to Speculate

Jakarta, CNN Indonesia

Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs (Menko Polhukam) Mahfud MD asked the public not to speculate regarding the fire incident at the Attorney General’s Office, which is said to have devoured the work space of the prosecutors caught in the Djoko Tjandra case, Pinangki Sirna Malasari.

He said this when answering reporters’ questions about the Jamintel office and the Pinangki Attorney’s office, which were caught on fire, allegedly deliberately to remove the case files.

“Intel will explain all of that later if why [ruang Jaksa] Pinangki burnt that’s already speculation, we’ll wait. At Intel there is a lot of data if the case has been handled. So the data, when it becomes a file, will enter the education room to Jampidus or Pidum. We can’t be speculative, “he said in an online press conference, Sunday (23/8).

He also said the case files for the Djoko Tjandra case involving Prosecutor Pinangki and the Jiwasraya case were not burned.

“First, the government fully guarantees that the case files that are currently being handled by the AGO, in which two cases are currently prominent, namely the Djoko Tjandra case involving Attorney Pinangki and the Jiwasraya case, the case files are 100 percent safe,” said Mahfud.

Head of the Attorney General’s Office of Legal Information, HariSetiyono also asked the public not to speculate regarding the cause of the fire which devastated almost all buildings in the Main Building. He believes the police will thoroughly investigate the cause of the fire.

“We beg you not to make speculations and irresponsible assumptions. This means that let us wait patiently for the results (of the investigation) by the police,” said Hari.

For information, the Attorney General’s Office is currently handling a number of high-profile corruption allegations in Indonesia. Among them are cases of financial management and investment funds at PT Asuransi Jiwasraya.

In addition, the Adhyaksa Corps is also working on the case of Djoko Tjandra, who also dragged the name of Attorney Pinangki Sirna Malasari in the case of alleged bribery.
