Hypermarket opened with employee killed on the ground generates controversy – News

Manoel Moisés’ body was covered with parasols and the store continued to operate.

A worker at the Carrefour hypermarket located in Recife, Brazil, died during his shift. Store managers decided to keep the space open and covered Manoel Moisés Cavalcante’s body with cardboard boxes and parasols, continuing to receive customers and to function normally.

Most of the customers did not notice what was going on and continued shopping, even though Manoel Moisés died early in the morning, at 8:00 am on Wednesday, when his shift started, and was even the target of attempts at resuscitation. However, some people questioned what was going on, photographed the location of the employee’s body and released the story on social media, generating a great wave of indignation.

Carrefour Brasil issued a statement this Wednesday in which it apologizes for the episode and states that the incident was poorly managed by those responsible for the store.

“The store was wrong, for not closing immediately after what happened, because we were waiting for the body to be collected, and for not having found a way to look at and respect the body of a person who was there,” explains the company.

According to the Carrefour store in Recife, Manoel Moisés was a sales manager and he felt bad shortly after starting the shift, passed out and lost consciousness. An ambulance was called to the scene and the man was still subjected to attempts at resuscitation, without success. Hypermarket officials say that after the employee died, “all guidelines have been followed, which say that the body should not be removed from the site.”

“We apologize to the family and are ready to help with whatever is necessary,” concludes Carrefour in a statement.

The cause of the employee’s death has not yet been revealed.
