Really bad luck! It’s true, one in two fake banknotes seized in Belgium is a denomination of 50 euros, according to the latest figures from the National Bank of Belgium (BNB). That is 6,220 out of a total of 12,507 in the second half of 2019.
“The number of counterfeit banknotes in circulation remains very limited compared to the number of real banknotes: 24 counterfeits per million banknotes in circulation. This figure has never been so low in 15 years”, comments on this subject Myriam Van Nieuwenhuyze, of the press service of the BNB. “The risk of being confronted with counterfeit banknotes is therefore low.”
