The Czech Republic Criticizes UN’s Support for HAMAS and Lack of Action on Global Conflicts

The reason for this position is the organization’s General Assembly resolution on the war in the Middle East, which does not condemn HAMAS’ attack on Israel. “Only 14 countries, including ours, took a clear stand against the unprecedented terrorist attack by HAMAS terrorists. I am ashamed of the UN,” Černohová points out that the Czech Republic has nothing to expect from an organization that “supports terrorists and does not respect the right to self-defense.”

The minister reminds that according to the UN statute, a country that “systematically violates the principles” can be expelled from the General Assembly. However, Iran regularly threatens Israel and nothing happens, Russia is at war with Ukraine, but “the UN is not concerned”. In addition, Russia still has veto power in the Security Council.

The UN General Assembly has adopted a resolution on the ceasefire in Gaza at the suggestion of Jordan. 120 out of 193 member states voted in favor. The document does not even mention HAMAS, and there is no demand for the release of Israeli soldiers taken hostage. Canada’s proposal to mention HAMAS in the resolution was rejected by the majority.

It should be reminded that the predecessor of the UN, the League of Nations, excluded the USSR in 1939 after aggression against Finland, but Nazi Germany and Japan withdrew themselves already in 1933. However, after the invasion of Abyssinia, now Ethiopia, Italy was not excluded from the organization, it withdrew itself in 1937.
