New York 2001. An attack in Central Park. A young girl was meeting there. Her best friend discovers her lying in her blood, after a rock concert down town. But here, we are in the bourgeois district of New York, just in front of a party that takes place there. The police arrest a young black man who tries to rescue the young girl. A married woman who was at the party is surprised not to see her husband there. The thriller begins.

City on Fire, it is the adaptation of an American best-seller which magnificently described New York society in the 70s. The authors of the series, already creators of Gossip Girl, keep the plot, but move it after the World Trade Center attacks. Chase Sui Wonders plays Samantha, the young girl attacked in Central Park: “That period in New York right after 9/11 was especially so visceral. There was this overwhelming sense of defeat in the city. People had no choice but to try to connect with each other. , and trying to uplift each other.”

Next to her, Wyatt Oleff plays his friend, Charlie: “Charlie Weisberger is a nervous and lost being who does not know his place in the world, at the beginning of the series. With Sam, he finds someone who gives him purpose and direction. And when he loses her, when she’s gone, he has to find his own way.”

The C-seriesity on Fire, excels first in the painting of all classes of a society: New York. Chase Sui Wonders explains: “There’s like a class struggle between the wealthy elites and the underground rebels. Sam and Charlie find themselves in the middle of it all.”. And it’s also a thriller: “It’s the search for Sam’s killer. As we discover details, we suddenly suspect this person, then another. Everyone becomes suspicious throughout the series. I have feels like it’s perfect for a series.”
