Inflation also increased, 6.52 percent in January; Food prices have increased

New Delhi: In January, the price increase in the country’s retail sector rose to 6.52 percent. It was 5.72 percent in December. The increase was more than the six percent expected by the Reserve Bank. In rural areas, the price increase is 6.85 percent and in urban areas, it is 6 percent.

The increase was more than this last October. The price increase was 6.77 percent. The rise in prices of food items has affected the retail sector. The increase in food prices was 5.94 percent in January. It was 4.19 percent in December.

Cereals have increased by 16.12 percent, eggs by 8.78 percent and milk by 8.79 percent. But there was a decline of 11.7 percent for vegetables. Last week, the Reserve Bank had increased the repo rate. The central government had instructed the Reserve Bank to maintain the price increase in the retail sector at 4 percent.
