On August 30, the Orthodox Church honors St. Alexander, a patriarch who lived in the time of Emperor Constantine the Great. He was a zealous defender of his religion and his flock from the betrayal of heretics and pagans.
In 1724, through the reign of the Russian Emperor Peter I, the relics of Saint Alexander Nevsky have been solemnly introduced to the new Russian cash, Petersburg, and put in the Lavra built in his memory.
These days is the 2nd yearly St. Alexander Nevsky pageant. The major holiday getaway is November 23rd.
