“The Kremlin is using food stocks as a stealth missile against developing countries. It drives up food prices, pushes people into poverty and destabilizes entire regions. Russia bears full responsibility for this food crisis,” Michel said.

He noted that Russian troops prevent Ukraine from engaging in agricultural production.

“The Kremlin is also targeting granaries and stealing grain from the areas it occupies, shifting the blame to others. This is cowardly. This is propaganda,” said the head of the European Council.

He stressed that the EU did not impose sanctions against Russia’s agricultural sector. And sanctions against the transport sector do not ban Russian-flagged ships from carrying grain.

Michel also spoke about the sexual violence used by the Russian military in the occupied territories.

“We hear messages that Russian forces are using sexual violence as a weapon of war. Sexual violence is a war crime, a crime against humanity. Tactics of torture, terror and repression. Shameful deeds in a shameful war,” the European official said.

When Nebenzya left the hall, Michel said after him: “Mr. Ambassador, you can leave the hall. Perhaps it’s easier not to hear the truth.”

On Twitter, Nebenzya wrote that Russian soldiers do not use sexual violence.
