Lukashenko announced “transit of power” in Belarus

Lukashenka promised to start “transit of power”

Alyaksandr Lukashenka claims that he does not recognize any means of changing power, except for “fair elections.”

The formal head of Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko, announced a “transit of power” two or three years after the adoption of a new constitution at a referendum, “but not earlier.” About it informs Mirror on Friday, January 21st.

According to Lukashenka, such a period is enough for Belarusians to “start living according to the law” and “quietly and calmly rebuild everything.” He claims that he does not recognize any way to change power, except for “fair elections.”

“I swear to you, as to my people. It will only be like this. And no one will dominate anyone. I will not hold power by force,” Lukashenka asserts.

Lukashenka also said that he was allegedly worried about the possible coming to power of “the wrong people”, because of which the country could go “the wrong way.” He called the draft of the updated Constitution and the referendum “the essence of democracy.”

“We will take a striking step towards real democracy, where the people will decide how to live in a referendum, and we, the servants of the people, will fulfill the will of the people,” Lukashenka summed up.

Recall that previously draft amendments to the constitution of Belarus published. One and the same person can be the president of Belarus for no more than two terms, the document says.

Later it became known that referendum on new constitution to be held on 27 February. The results of the referendum will come into force in Belarus ten days after the official publication.
