Israel Ready to Face 2,000 Rockets a Day from Hezbollah

Jakarta, CNN Indonesia

Israel said he didn’t want war with Hizbullah in Lebanon, but said it was prepared for 2,000 rocket attacks a day if conflict broke out.

In May last year, the Israeli army had fought an 11-day war against Palestinian militias in the Gaza Strip who had fired about 4,400 projectiles into Israeli territory.

Israel says its Iron Dome defense system, which has been in use for about a decade, has intercepted about 90 percent of the rockets aimed at residential areas. Meanwhile, about 300 rockets are said to have landed in unpopulated areas.

The ratio of the number of attacks said the Israeli army exceeded the number when Israel went to war with Hezbollah in 2006. The number of attacks at that time was said to be the same, but the war lasted a month.

“Basically we estimate that between 1,500 to 2,500 rockets are fired a day at Israel,” a senior Israeli army military official told AFP, Sunday (17/10).

When Israel went to war with Hezbollah in 2006, more than 1,200 Lebanese were killed, while the victims in the Israeli camp numbered 160, mostly soldiers.

The war led Israel to improve the defense system of the Interior Front Command, which is responsible for the protection of civilians. This system predicts the direction of the missile using a computer, then warns residents to head to the protected area.

During the conflict in May, this system allowed it to work in less than five minutes. Preparations are said to be underway for a potential incident with the Lebanese border.
