Haitem Fathallah, 32-year-old Italian basketball player, died on Sunday after suffering cardiac arrest during a third-division match in Italy’s league, the country’s federation announced.
Fathallah, representing Fortitudo Messina, fell to the ground during the third period of the game against Reggio Calabria. He was immediately transported to hospital, but eventually died.
The Italian Basketball Federation lamented the death of the player, who played in Messina since 2016, after spells in Porto Empedocle, Racalmuto and Licata.
