NYPD Assigns More Cops To Guard Times Square

In his daily lecture, New York Mayor Bill de Blasio announced the creation of a Security Plan for Times Square.

He reported that more than 50 additional troops will be assigned to increase surveillance of illegal sales in connection with armed violence.

De Blasio vowed to make the Times Square area safe for tourists, especially during the recovery initiative: Summer NYC.

In reference to the high temperatures, Emergency Management Commissioner John Scrivani emphasized the precautionary measures that New Yorkers must take during these meteorological events, especially for the most vulnerable inhabitants.

During his participation, Councilor Daneek Miller highlighted the importance of getting information about cooling centers to community members.

The Mayor verified that the number of vaccines administered amounts to 9,236,421 and that the incentives to increase inoculation rates continue to be delivered.

As for the new indicators used to measure progress in the fight against coronavirus, the most recent data showed:

  • Number of positive cases admitted to hospitals: 58 (16%)
  • Number of hospitalizations per 100,000 population, 7-day median (NYS): 0.29
  • Reported cases of COVID-19, 7-day average: 179
  • Percentage of patients who tested positive, 7-day average: 0.57%
