The next Windows is completely redesigned and inevitably reminiscent of MacOS

Microsoft has been blamed for some time for the lack of innovation in its Windows systems for several generations. Even more so with the arrival of the new MacBook M1 to Spain and consequently macOS Big Sur, the aesthetic renovation of Apple’s operating system. Windows 10X, Microsoft’s new system, will pick up the baton.

At least partially, because rather little is known about this OS that was originally intended for dual-screen or folding screen devices. Now, some of its most important aesthetic details have been leaked, such as its new start menu and its startup animation.

Details that, although they seem minor, determine a lot how polished the experience that we, the users, will have with said system. And the comparisons are odious, as they are reminiscent of MacOS and the style that Apple’s operating system carries.

More details of Windows 10X

Tom Warren, editor senior del portal The Verge, has posted a short leaked video showing the Windows 10X bootloader. Extremely different from the one we currently have at Microsoft, much more up-to-date and dynamic, with nice music.

It may seem like a minor detail, but if a problem Windows has it is its aesthetic incoherence. And while Windows 10 is a minimalist system, seeking a flat aesthetic, its poorly applied design language makes it feel like a clunky OS. That the bootloader is so careful is a sign that Microsoft is heading in the right direction.

Additionally, it has leaked the Windows 10X start menu. It will follow the same aesthetic as the one we currently have, but with a change in the form factor, which will make it more attractive for the user and, above all, easier to use.

As we can see, this new redesigned menu has more to do with what it would be a dock than with the classic Windows start menu. We go from the left to the central part and we forget about the tiles (the controversial Tiles) and we opted for a much more uniform design, with the main applications in the foreground and with a couple of search functions and so on.

A dock that reminds us powerfully to macOS already his famous dock, with a search function that also reminds us of Spotlight, Apple’s search engine. Microsoft certainly has to look to its rivals to improve, but it was unexpected that Microsoft’s new system would take notes from Apple, a company with a radically opposite philosophy in this market.

Little else is known about Windows 10X, beyond these details and that, according to Tom Warren, the system is in its final development falses. It is not known when we will see this system born or when or how it will be implemented, and more importantly, if it will replace standard Windows 10 as Microsoft’s main flagship OS.
