Lower Saxony’s state parliament wants to adopt the budget

On its last scheduled day of meeting this year, the state parliament in Hanover plans to adopt the state budget for 2021 today. The draft budget of the red-black government with a volume of 35.9 billion euros provides for a good 1.1 billion euros in new debt in view of the corona crisis and expected tax breaks. While the grand coalition sees the budget as a balanced compromise to deal with the corona crisis and future tasks, there is criticism from the opposition. The Greens complain about savings in the wrong place and a lack of future investments. The FDP accused the coalition of accumulating mountains of debt under the pretext of the corona crisis and saving the money for later projects without a direct corona connection.

The corona pandemic is still one of the topics in the state parliament in Kiel today. At the beginning of the meeting, the Schleswig-Holstein MPs discuss the situation in school buses, where distance rules are usually difficult to adhere to. The SPD therefore wants to use unused buses from travel companies to transport schoolchildren with the help of a bus exchange.
