Polri Calls One of JI’s Funding Sources from the Charity Box

Jakarta, CNN Indonesia

Indonesian Police stated that one of the sources of funding for the Jamaah Islamiyah group (SHOW UP) is the result of misuse of the function of the charity box at the convenience store.

“And the misuse of the function of the charity box funds that we found was located in mini markets in several regions in Indonesia,” said Karo Penmas of the Police Public Relations Division, Brigadier General Awi Setiyanto, at the Police Headquarters, Monday (30/11).

The JI group used the funds to dispatch terrorists to Syria for military training and terror tactics.

In addition, the funds were also used to pay regular salaries for the leaders of the JI Markaziyah and the purchase of weapons and explosives to be used for amaliyah or jihad.

Awi said, Densus 88 succeeded in dismantling JI figures who played a role in controlling and funding this activity. The demolition of these figures took place after the arrest of JI’s highest emir, Para Wijayanto, on June 29, 2019.

Densus 88 also succeeded in arresting 24 important JI figures from October to November 2020.

“24 important figures and members of JI who are active in controlling and funding the Jamaah Islamiyah organization,” said Awi.

From the arrest, it was noted that several JI leaders were the controllers and main funders, including BY, who had served as Tahjiz in the field of JI asset and HR control, FS as the administrator of Abdurahman bin Auf – the foundation supporting JI’s operational funding, then W as a member of Tahjiz.

There is also E as Qoid or leader of the western region of Qodimah, the US as advisor and chair of Amir’s election committee, and A as a member of the social and welfare sector of JI members.

Awi said that from the results of the Densus 88 investigation, it was seen that the JI group was still growing. JI itself is an organization that has been officially banned by the state.

“Because he played a role in a number of criminal acts of terrorism in Indonesia, such as the Bali Bombings 1 and 2, the JW Marriot Bomb, the 2000 Christmas Eve Bomb, a series of several other acts of terrorism in Indonesia that have resulted in around 2,000 people becoming victims,” said Awi. .

Previously, Densus 88 arrested the suspect in the terrorism case on behalf of Taufik Bulaga alias Upik Lawanga. He was arrested during an operation that was held on 23 and 25 November 2020 in Lampung.

“Upik Lawanga is the most valuable asset of Jamaah Islamiyah or JI because UL is the successor of Dr Azhari so that he was hidden by the JI group and moved places,” said Awi.
