Since the end of September, the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict has erupted again. Each of the parties involved has its own version of what happened, but the Azerbaijani military has been able to seize parts of Nagorno-Karabakh. So far, heavy fighting has taken place for Sushi on the outskirts of the capital, Stepanakert, and some sources have reported its fall.
–
TVNET journalist Jānis Vingris also visited the city of Sushi, who admits that he has felt the feeling of high adrenaline for a whole week. More on that in the interview.
–
Context: There have been hostile relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia since the 1990s, when there was a war over Nagorno-Karabakh, a predominantly Armenian population.
–
Nagorno-Karabakh, which was part of the Azerbaijani SSR during the Soviet era, has been a “de facto” independent Armenian republic since the early 1990s. Although Azerbaijan has not controlled Nagorno-Karabakh since the collapse of the USSR, it considers the Armenian region to be its territory. Nagorno-Karabakh is also considered by the international community to be part of Azerbaijan, and no country has recognized the region as an independent state.

Jānis Vingra’s materials on the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict will soon be on the TVNET portal.
