Three new cycle expressways to Freiburg – Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald district

Government Board promotes feasibility studies.

(BZ). The planning of cycle superhighways in South Baden is picking up speed: The Freiburg Government Office (RP) is promoting further feasibility studies by the Regional Association of the South Upper Rhine for connections in the region. “With the cycle superhighways we want to make it easier for commuters to switch to the environmentally friendly means of transport. This serves climate protection as well as traffic safety and people’s health, and it also improves the parking situation in our cities,” said Government President Brbel Schfer.

The “RS 6” from Freiburg to Emmendingen and Waldkirch, which is classified as a state road, and the “RS 7” between Schopfheim and Lrrach in the Lrrach district are currently being planned at the Freiburg RP. Funded by the state, the regional association of the southern Upper Rhine had already carried out several studies between 2017 and 2019 on cycle superhighways in the greater Freiburg area (towards Emmendingen / Waldkirch, towards Umkirch / March) and in the greater area of Offenburg (towards Friesenheim / Lahr, towards Gengenbach, towards Straburg) let work out.

With the funding now approved, the foundation stone has been laid for five further feasibility studies. Specifically, it concerns the following connections:
Freiburg – Umkirch – March – Breisach
Freiburg – Kirchzarten
Freiburg – Bad Krozingen – Heitersheim – Mllheim
Offenburg-Appenweier – Renchen – Achern – Bhl with connection to Rheinau / Gambsheim (France)
Lahr – Ettenheim – Rust – Herbolzheim – Kenzingen – Emmendingen (with branch to Rust)
With the funding, the state will cover 80 percent of the costs of the feasibility studies. For the five new ones, the sum is around 175,000 euros. Once they have been completed, the Ministry of Transport will decide whether and how the connections will be implemented. The independent, continuous and wide routes of the cycle expressways are intended to enable trouble-free, safe progress. By 2025, there should be ten cycle superhighways in Baden-Wrttemberg. The federal and state governments provide the districts and municipalities with funding of up to 90 percent.
