90 people died in an attack in the Bataclan, now Paris buys the concert hall | Abroad

The Paris city council will make a decision next week on the purchase of the hall. The price is set at 1.4 million euros. Mayor Anne Hidalgo writes on Twitter that ‘the Bataclan is the history of Paris’.

The Bataclan opened in 1865 and has been one of the most striking halls in Paris for years. The concert hall has “reflected the Parisian culture and way of life for 150 years”, according to the Bataclan himself. In addition to the massacre, the hall is also known as a symbol of Paris’ determination to continue to enjoy life despite the extremist threat.

On the evening of November 13, 2015, eight jihadists committed attacks in various places in Paris, acting on behalf of the terrorist group IS. The attacks killed 129 people and injured 350. The terrorists shot around in some Parisian cafes and committed suicide bombings with a bomb belt at the football stadium Stade de France. Three of them broke into the Bataclan concert hall.

At that time, a concert by the American band Eagles of Death Metal was taking place in the hall. They fired automatic firearms at the visitors from a balcony. One attacker was shot dead by the police, the other two blew themselves up. A Belgian member of the terror group managed to escape and was arrested in Brussels only months later. He has yet to appear in court for his part in the massacre.
