A 9-year-old girl who went missing during a family camping trip in upstate New York was found safe and sound Monday after a two-day search, authorities said.
Charlotte Sena was located “in good health” and “a suspect is in custody” in connection with her disappearance Saturday night, the New York State Police said in a statement. “This is an active investigation,” the statement added.
Sena was camping at Lake Moreau State Park with his family and went out for a bike ride on Saturday, but did not return.
At the time of her disappearance, Charlotte was wearing an orange t-shirt with a Pokemon on it, dark blue pants, black Crocs, and her gray bike helmet. She was last seen at 6:15 p.m. on Saturday. Her mother reported her missing around 6:45 p.m., after finding the bicycle, but no trace of the girl. The authorities warned this Monday that the minor was “in imminent danger.”

Police said that early Monday they “identified an individual who was in the area of Lake Moreau State Park around the time Charlotte disappeared,” according to ABC News.
Although no further details were given about how the girl was located, it was learned that she was discovered in a type of trailer at a residence in Milton, New York.
Regarding the suspect, American media indicate that he is a known pedophile with a criminal record of a sexual nature. Public records reveal that he was convicted of sexually abusing three boys in 1997 and sentenced to 15 years in prison.

The suspect allegedly left a ransom note at Sena’s parents’ house, which was covered in his DNA and fingerprints. This evidence played a crucial role in her arrest.
After Sena’s location was revealed, New York Governor Kathy Hochul issued a statement saying that “we are delighted with the news that Charlotte Sena has been located safe and sound this afternoon, after several days of intense searching. Our hearts go out to her family as they welcome her home.”
The governor thanked “the New York State Police, the New York Park Police and everyone who has worked tirelessly to find Charlotte. Thanks to her efforts, Charlotte will be able to return home safely to her family.”
